Description

Fire cider is a bold, vinegary tonic made by steeping roots, citrus, and hot peppers in apple cider vinegar, perfect for wellness routines.

Ingredients

  • Apple cider vinegar with the mother, enough to cover everything
  • Fresh ginger, sliced
  • Fresh turmeric, sliced (or ground if needed)
  • Garlic cloves, smashed
  • Onion or shallot, sliced
  • Horseradish root, grated or finely chopped
  • Hot pepper like jalapeño or serrano, sliced
  • Black peppercorns, a few
  • Citrus like lemon or orange, sliced
  • Raw honey to taste after straining

Instructions

  1. Wash and prep all produce. Slice or chop thinly. Smash the garlic to release the oils.
  2. Pack a clean glass jar with the ginger, turmeric, garlic, onion, horseradish, hot pepper, peppercorns, and citrus.
  3. Pour in apple cider vinegar until everything is fully covered. Tighten the lid and label with the date.
  4. Store in a cool, dark spot and shake daily. Steep for 2 to 4 weeks.
  5. Strain through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean bottle. Stir in raw honey to taste.

Notes

Experiment with flavor tweaks by adding rosemary, increasing citrus, or adjusting sweetness to suit your taste.
