- 1/2 cup water or apple juice
- 1 to 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 to 2 tablespoons lemon juice (optional)
- Pinch of salt
- Optional sweetener: 1 to 3 tablespoons maple syrup, honey, or brown sugar
Instructions
- Add chopped apples and water (or juice) to the Instant Pot. Sprinkle in cinnamon, salt, and lemon juice if using.
- Lock the lid and set the valve to sealing. Cook on High Pressure for 5 minutes.
- Let it naturally release for 10 minutes, then carefully quick release the rest.
- Open the lid and stir. The apples should be very soft.
- For chunky sauce, mash with a potato masher. For smooth sauce, blend with an immersion blender or carefully transfer to a blender in batches.
- Taste and decide if you want sweetener. Add a little at a time so you do not overdo it.
Notes
The choice of apples can greatly affect the flavor and sweetness of the applesauce. Use sweet apples for naturally sweet sauce.
